WILMINGTON, N.C. (WRMT) – Speaking on “The View,” host Whoopi Goldberg insinuated that millennials feel the American dream, like owning a home, is no longer within reach.
Goldberg explained that millennials and Gen Z are not working hard enough like previous generations.
“I’m sorry — if you only want to work four hours, it’s going to be harder for you to get a house,” Goldberg said.
However, history shows us that millennials, on average, are economically speaking, worse off than their parents and previous generations. Many millennials entered the workforce during the Great Recession and experienced slow economic growth compared to any generation in U.S. history because of external factors, such as the Covid pandemic.
Regardless of the historical data and statistics proving the economic disadvantage millennials and future generations face moving forward, Goldberg says every generation once felt this way.
“Data shows that soaring inflation, student debt and limited room for advancement in the workplace has made them feel that milestones like affording a home, starting a family, excelling within the corporate structure are out of reach. Does every generation feel this way at some point? I say yes,” Goldberg said.
