WILMINGTON, N.C. (WRMT) — On Friday, Feb. 2, a loaded gun was found inside the bag of a pre-K student at Rachel Freeman School of Engineering, according to the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office.
The gun was discovered by a teacher who then alerted the school resource officer, NHCSO says.
The father of the child was charged with misdemeanor fail to secure firearm to a minor.
NHCS released the following statement:
“We are taking all necessary steps to help law enforcement investigate this incident and review our security protocols to make sure it can’t happen again. Our families are our partners in educating their children and keeping them safe, and we encouraged them to talk with their students about sharing safety concerns with adults at school.”
