WASHINGTON, D.C. (WRMT) — On Thursday, President Joe Biden announced that he will forgive roughly $6 billion for 78,000 borrowers such as teachers, nurses or social workers enrolled in the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.
The qualifying borrowers have made 10 years of monthly payments.
Congratulatory emails by the President are expected to be sent to them next week.
Emails are also being sent to 380,000 borrowers who may be eligible for relief within the next two years, with the emails from Biden saying to borrowers to “keep it up!”
As of now, Biden has canceled nearly $144 billion of federal student loan debt of approximately 4 million borrowers.
