CLEVELAND, Ohio (WRMT) — A Cleveland mother pleaded guilty Thursday to aggravated murder and endangering children regarding the death of her 16-month-old daughter.
On June 6, 2023, Kristel Candelario, 32, left her daughter Jailyn Candelario alone inside their home near Lorain Avenue and W. 97th Street for 10 days while she went to Detroit and Puerto Rico, said Cleveland police.
On June 16, 2023, the mother returned around 8 a.m, finding Jailyn unresponsive and called 911.
Jailyn was discovered in a Pack-N-Play pen on a liner soiled with urine and feces with soiled blankets, Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O’Malley said.
“This case is one of those truly unimaginable cases that will stick with me for many years to come,” said Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley.
When emergency personnel arrived on the scene, they pronounced the little girl was dead.
Candelario is scheduled to be sentenced on March 18.
