WILMINGTON, N.C. (WRMT) — Several nonprofits across southeastern North Carolina and the country are experiencing fewer donations this holiday season.
Many nonprofit workers point to rising inflation as a reason that people are donating less this year. According to Saint Nicholas Christmas Foundation, they are down this year by 50% in donations.
In a 2022 Gallup poll, decline in donations was seen among all income groups. The most being from people in lower- and middle-income households. However, on average, it found that Americans would likely spend $975 on holiday gifts, up over $100 in 2022.
Toys for Tots, which helps people in Brunswick, Bladen and Columbus counties, report that it has experienced a 40% decrease in donations this year. However, its applications process has increased compared to the previous year.
Despite the nonprofits not reaching its donation goals, they do want people to know how grateful they are for the donations it has been receiving.
If you would like to make a donation, you can do so my visiting the Saint Nicholas’s Christmas Foundation and Toys for Tots website.
