COLUMBUS COUNTY, N.C. (WRMT) – On Monday, District Attorney Jon David’s office announced the guilty plea and sentencing of former Chadbourn Police Department Chief William Anthony Spivey.
Spivey, pleaded guilty to 14 felonies, one misdemeanor and was sentenced to 138-267 months in prison. In 2021, Spivey was charged for stealing guns from the evidence locker, pills over the course of multiple years and thousands of dollars in cash.
The following year, in 2022, a search began for a missing person after a suicide note was found, while Spivey was out on bond.
“Two Assistant District Attorneys with the Columbus County District Attorney’s office requested to review evidence in several narcotic cases at the Chadbourn Police Department for discovery purposes. Spivey could not produce all the evidence requested and declined allowing the examination of the evidence he presented,” the announcement states.
Columbus County Sheriff’s Office received a tip and arrested Spivey at a friend’s property in Loris, South Carolina. The plea agreement was finalized by Chief Assistant District Attorney Jason Minnicozzi.
