COLUMBUS COUNTY, N.C. (WRMT) – On Wednesday, the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office booked Scott Dale Todd, 29, into the county jail on sex crime charges.
Todd appeared in court on Friday, and is now released due to a $300,000 secured bond.
According to the CCSO, Todd was arrested at his home in Clarkton and he was charged with three counts of indecent liberties with a student. He was later charged with an additional three counts of indecent liberties with a child.
Todd was an assistant PE teacher, bus driver and coach for the girls’ soccer team at Classical Charter Schools of Whiteville, according to a CCSO announcement.
On Nov. 1, the school announced that a now former school employee was fire due to an alleged “inappropriate relationship” with a student. The school informed the school resource officer about the suspected inappropriate relationship, the CCSO says.
The CCSO says it discovered that Todd had “inappropriate emotional and physical contact” with a student both while doing his job and during his leisure time after it got warrants for electronic devices, used surveillance footage and interviewed witnesses.
Todd will appear in court on Dec. 8.
