MOSCOW, RUSSIA (WRMT) — Russia’s top court banned what it called the “global LGBTQ+ movement” as an extremist organization.
Less than 48 hours after the top court in Russia banned what it called the “global LGBTQ+ movement” as an extremist organization, security forces raided gay clubs and bars across Moscow.
The search across the Russian capital included a nightclub, male sauna and a bar hosting LGBTQ+ parties. People at the venues had their documents verified by security and were photographed.
The closings of several LGBTQ+ venues have begun out of concerns over the recent actions taken and the court ruling.
The ruling by the top court in Russia is a new move made by President Vladimir Putin to end LGBTQ+ rights. According to Putin, he believes in “traditional family values.”
