OHIO (WRMT) — A woman in Ohio is being arrested and charged after pretending on social media that her daughter had cancer.
Pamela Reed, 41, posted multiple times on social media that her 7-year-old daughter has leukemia.
According to officials, Reed allegedly collected thousands of dollars from people and organizations. Donors were led to believe they were donating to fund the treatment.
After Reed told the girl’s elementary school that her daughter was blind in her right eye, the school discovered that Reed was allegedly collecting money, according to an affidavit.
After conducting an eye exam on the child, officials became suspicious and later learned that she did not have cancer.
Reed is charged with theft by deception and a judge has set her bond at $50,000.
