GREENVILLE, N.C. (WRMT) — A newborn baby was found abandoned inside a dumpster near a Greenville apartment building.
On Sunday, around 10:20 a.m. police arrived at 1574 Bridle Circle for a welfare check after receiving a call that a child less than 3 days old, was found in a dumpster.
The baby was found abandoned with cold temperatures early that morning in the low 40s.
A woman found the baby in the trash and brought it inside before police arrived.
According to police, the baby is at ECU Health Medical Center and doing well. The mother has been located and police say she is a juvenile.
The North Carolina Department of Social Services is assisting police with the investigation and no charges have been made in the case.
In the state of North Carolina, a Safe Haven Law allows parents to surrender or give up their infant who is under seven days of age without being arrested or put on trial for abandonment.
